BAY MINETTE, Ala. — A Franklin, Tenn., Navy supply corps officer has been added to the interview list of candidates vying for the Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency director’s post.
Capt. John Perrett, a 1979 Baldwin County High School graduate is scheduled for an interview with the Baldwin County Commission at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Baldwin County Central Annex Building, 22251 Palmer St., in Robertsdale.
Perrett’s resume cites his recent selection to serve as the U.S. Navy’s Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officer in Tennessee, leadership and staff development and operations management as job qualifications.
The Commission on Tuesday will begin a second series of interviews to fill the Emergency Management Agency director’s post, after their last choice abruptly resigned last month citing concerns about the one-year contract. Three candidates are scheduled for interviews Tuesday.
According to Personnel Director Andrea Rider, the four candidates will be interviewed for one hour each.
Karen Blackwood, an Atoka, Tenn., resident who has been an emergency management officer for the U.S. Navy since June 2007, accepted the post June 17 at $97,000 per year, then backed out June 19 in an e-mail to Rider. Blackwood expressed concerns about the one-year contract which was changed from a four-year contract last November. Commissioners Tucker Dorsey and Charles “Skip” Gruber are in favor of returning to the four-year contract cycle. Commission chairman Frank Burt and Commissioner Bob James endorse the one-year term.
Seventy-one candidates from across the nation applied for the job, and about 10 resumes have been received since Blackwood’s decision change, Rider said. Candidates scheduled for interviews Tuesday are:
• Michael R. Gregory, who holds a bachelor’s degree in emergency management, hurricane experience, and 20 years of experience, according to his resume.
• Harry Allen Foster, a Birmingham, Ala., resident who is a 21-year Air Force colonel and Harvard Kennedy School graduate with analytic experience while on the faculty of the Air Was College.
• Sherry Shows, of Madison, Ala., who has a master’s degree in emergency management from Jacksonville State University and is a doctoral candidate in public policy administration at Walden University in Minneapolis, Minn.
Candidates will be allowed a maximum of $750 for travel expenses.
