FOLEY — Foley Police have arrested four people for alleged drug trafficking.

According to Foley Police Information Officer Kelley O’Donnell, police received a call on Sunday about a disturbance at a hotel room at Americas Best Inn and Suites on South McKenzie Street.

“When officers entered the hall near room 105, they noticed a strong chemical smell,” O’Donnell said. “Believing this could be a possible meth lab, they called for the Foley Fire Department and began evacuating the hotel.”

Through the investigation, O’Donnell said, it was later determined that someone had released some type of pepper spray in or near room 105.

Officials with the Foley Fire Department used a chemical monitor and located a duffel bag emitting an organic odor.

“When the bag was located officers found large bags of marijuana,” O’Donnell said. “In all, 21.18 pounds of marijuana was seized.”

Further investigation uncovered that the suspects had allegedly driven to Alabama from Oregon with an intent to sell the marijuana.

The suspects include 53-year-old Donald Eugene McQueen, 40-year-old Travis Bode Erwing, Austin Richard Pourier and Amanda Lee Cleland.

O’Donnell said Foley Police arrested allfour suspects, charging each with trafficking marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She added that Foley Police are continuing to investigate the case.
