Pickleball players of all experience levels are invited to compete and support local education during the annual Foundation Paddle Classic on Aug. 22 at the Foley Pickleball Courts.
Presented by Vulcan Inc., the one-day gender doubles tournament serves as a fundraiser for local education initiatives, with proceeds helping provide resources, grants and opportunities for students and teachers throughout the community.
The event will take place at the Foley Pickleball Courts located at 671 Kenny Stabler Avenue. Organizers describe the tournament as a day of community competition, courtside fun and networking while raising money for a local cause.
Teams of two will compete in gender doubles play. Tournament divisions will be organized by both skill level and age to promote balanced competition.
Skill divisions include beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Age brackets are 8-35, 35-50, 50-60, 60-69 and 70 and older. Players may compete in a lower age bracket, but not a higher one. Tournament officials said age groups may be combined or split as needed to ensure competitive and playable brackets.
The tournament will feature a round-robin format followed by a playoff bracket. Organizers noted the event is a charity-focused tournament and participation will not affect players' Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating, or DUPR.
Player check-in and warm-ups will be held before competition begins, with exact times to be announced. An opening ceremony and rules briefing are scheduled for 7:45 a.m., followed by the start of tournament play at 8 a.m. A complete bracket schedule will be released closer to the event date.
Registration is $40 per player through the Clever Pickleball registration platform. Participants are asked to register for only one event. Players needing to make changes after registering should contact the tournament director.
