FOLEY, Ala. - The new location for Fortis College will open Monday, and students will walk through the doors of their new academic home ready to implant knowledge into their eager minds.

The new 14,000 square-foot campus located at 200 East Laurel Ave. will include new labs and classrooms as part of a campus right in the center of downtown Foley with businesses and a major park nearby. The building will have some improvements from the former building, Darlene Staimpel, college registrar, said.

"We have up-to-date modern equipment and a much larger facility," Staimpel said. "It's state-of-the-art. And best of all we are in downtown Foley."

The campus also will have new program offerings in Heating Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration and Electrical Trades, in addition to the current Medical Assisting curriculum.

"We will have other programs in the future, but right now those are in the works," Staimpel said. "Currently, we have right around 95 students."

Students take five-to-six week classes in the programs, and classes are offered year-round.

It's constant. We never stop," Staimpel said.

The previous location for the college, which will close down after this week, is located on Alabama 59 north of downtown Foley

The first students will arrive Monday morning at 8 a.m.
