Former state Sen. Albert Lipscomb drops out of race for Congress in Alabama

FAIRHOPE, Alabama—Less than a week after former three-term Alabama Sen. Albert Lipscomb announced he would qualify by today's 5 p.m. Aug. 5 deadline to run for Alabama's 1st District U.S. House seat vacated by former U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner, he has withdrawn from the race.

J. Holland, communications director for Lipscomb's brief Congressional campaign, confirmed this afternoon that the former candidate would not be running.

“After the qualifying period is over, he will issue a statement,” Holland said.
