FOLEY, Ala. — After a successful football season for the Foley High School Lions, videographer Chris McClantoc had a lot to work with for the highlights video.
McClantoc, a past Foley football player himself, saw history in the making and wanted to capture it on tape. He approached Coach Todd Watson, football coach and athletic director for Foley High School, asking if he could produce a highlight video for the 2007 season. Watson agreed, and McClantoc went right to work.
The video, which is available now, features memorable plays made by players like Julio Jones and Robert Lester. Also included in the reel are historic football moments from seasons past intertwined with this season’s noted interceptions, touchdowns and wins.
McClantoc has a deep investment in the blue and gold. The 21-year-old said he has grown up as a Lion.
“I attended Foley from kindergarten all the way through high school, graduating in 2004.”
He said that his passion for video stemmed from a class he took in high school.
“I had technology at Foley with Mrs. Resmondo where there was an editing machine in the class. I, by chance, started working on a video for the football team my junior year and have been with video ever since. The minute I finished the first video I knew that I wanted to work with video.”
On his first outing, McClantoc recalls, he was shooting footage of Hurricane Ivan from his dad’s shrimp boat on Bon Secour River. After shooting, McClantoc headed back in, but when he stepped from the boat to the flooded pier, he missed.
“I fell into the river with the camera around my neck and ruined it.”
Recently McClantoc has made sports highlights DVDs, ski and snowboarding videos and music videos. But he said that he is equipped to shoot short films, documentaries and special events like weddings and graduations.
As for the Foley highlights video, McClantoc is getting praise. Coach Watson said that McClantoc has always been a part of making the video.
“He always does a good job with it,” he said.
This year is McClantoc’s first time to produce the video alone, and Watson said it is very good.
McClantoc has future plans to develop his skill into a budding business.
“I will expand on every aspect of the film industry that I am able. I want to be as well rounded as possible. However far my business goes I guess that will be up to God, but I will take advantage of every opportunity available.”
