ATLANTA -- Georgia Tech softball coach Shelly Hoerner announced the hiring of Sage Woodham as the Yellow Jackets’ pitching coach. Woodham joins Georgia Tech from Southern Arkansas University, where in 2016 she was part of the NFCA’s Central Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
“I'm excited to welcome Sage to our staff,” Hoerner said. “Everywhere she has been, she has been a winner. Her playing experience, winning mentality, along with a strong rapport with her pitching staffs, are what I'm most excited about for our program. Sage’s work ethic will be a great fit for our staff and team, and is what we need to propel our program in the direction we envision.”
“It is such an honor to be a part of the Georgia Tech family,” said Woodham. “I would like to thank director of athletics Mike Bobinski and head coach Shelly Hoerner for giving me this opportunity. I am looking forward to working with great student-athletes and an outstanding coaching staff. Coach Hoerner's passion and motivation is infectious, and I am thrilled to help build the program alongside her.”
Named as the Gulf South Conference (GSC) Pitcher of the Decade for the 2000s, Woodham spent the last two seasons at Southern Arkansas, where she coached two All-Great American Conference pitchers, one all-region pitcher, and the GAC Newcomer of the Year and Hero Sports Division II Newcomer of the Year in LHP Kimmy Beasley.
Before coaching, Woodham was a standout pitcher for the University of Alabama-Huntsville softball team from 2006-09. At UAH, Woodham was a two-time All-American and named the Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Decade (2000s) in 2010. During her career, she won 91 games and posted a 1.22 ERA with 607 strikeouts. Woodham also helped lead the Chargers to a national runner-up finish in the 2009 NCAA Division II World Series.
