Foley Woman’s Club welcomed Foley police chief, prepares for Mad Hatters’ Event

FOLEY - The Foley Woman's Club held its first meeting of 2022 on Monday, Jan. 3. During the meeting, club members welcomed speaker Foley Police Chief Thurston Bullock, who discussed the department's different units, crime in the city and the department's policing goals.
"Policing isn't just about enforcing action, it's about interacting with the community, and that's something very important," Bullock said. "We have a community that we're out there engaging with in various aspects throughout the day and night, and we're not just out there stopping cars or patrolling. They all have a purpose, but there's so much more to us than that."
Bullock said the Foley Police Department is proactive as opposed to reactive, saying that the department's multiple units make it possible for officers to both perform their jobs and interact with the community. According to Bullock, interacting with the citizens is an important part of keeping them safe.
"All our specialty units allow us to get out there and meet with the community and do all these different things, then we become part of the community," he said. "Then we're not just cops or going from call to call to call, and that helps us be proactive. That's who we are, and we're blessed because we have the personnel and funds to do that."
The Foley Woman's Club meets the first Monday of the month at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church (501 North Pine Street, Foley). The February meeting will feature Baskets and BINGO. Members will present their baskets they have put together for the upcoming Mad Hatters' Event, followed by some rounds of BINGO. Full membership and associate memberships are $20 annually.
