Foley to welcome Snowbirds at annual coffee

FOLEY, Ala. — The Forward City will hold its Visit Foley Snowbird Coffee next week.

The free event, which is co-presented by the city of Foley and the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, will be 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the Foley Civic Center.

“We’ll be serving coffee and doughnuts,” said Linda Hula of Foley Visitors Center.

A shuttle service provided by the city of Foley’s miniature train will provide rides to and from the rear parking lot of the civic center.

The reception will include a goody bag containing discount coupons to Foley businesses and a chance to chat with representatives of Foley attractions and organizations.

“There will be people from South Baldwin Regional Medical Center, Senior Citizens, Foley Performing Arts Association, Foley Fire Department, Foley Police Department, Leslie Gahagan will talk about Graham Creek Nature Preserve, Perry Wilburn will be talking about the Rose Trail, the Model Train Museum will be represented, and the library,” Hula said. “The market manager for the Alabama Coastal Farmers and Fishermen’s Market is going to be there, too. A lot of people have questions about those things.”

Attendees will get a chance to tap into their competitive edge, as well.

“We’re also going to be playing Foley Black-Out Bingo,” Hula said.

To play, attendees will receive a game card. With it, can black out businesses in downtown Foley, which are listed, for a chance to win prizes. The grand prize is a Samsung Galaxy Tablet 3.

Contestants will have two days to participate.

“We’re going to be playing on the 14th and 15th,” Hula said. “It really is a lot of fun. I think the Snowbirds will learn a lot more about Foley and what we have to offer.”

More than 500 people came to last year’s Coffee, and Hula anticipates an even bigger crowd Tuesday.

“Our out-of-town visitors are very important to us,” she said. “We want to show them what we have.”
