The Foley Public Library is preparing to move into its new home later this summer, a transition that will bring expanded services and roughly double the space available in its current facility.
To accommodate the move, the library will close its current location from July 13 through Aug. 3. During that period, staff will relocate operations to the new library building at 230 East Orange Avenue.
While the library is closed, patrons will still be able to return borrowed materials using the book drop at the current location, 319 E. Laurel Ave.
Library officials said the Foley Public Library catalog system will be unavailable for Foley materials during the move. However, the countywide catalog will remain accessible for materials from other Baldwin County libraries, and patrons will continue to have the option of selecting a pickup location anywhere in the county.
Digital services offered through the Foley Public Library will remain available throughout the transition.
The new library will provide about 40,000 square feet of space and include a variety of new features and program areas. Planned amenities include a sensory room, separate activity spaces for children and teens and a large multipurpose room with seating for 277 people.
Additional facilities will include a STEAM-STEM lab and dedicated spaces for programs such as special-needs activities.
The building will also feature a second-story porch overlooking the Perry Wilbourne Antique Rose Trail and the city’s Dog Park.
Once the new library opens, the current building will undergo renovations and be repurposed for other municipal uses.
