Foley postpones Thursday's 'beach' party

FOLEY, Ala. — A “beach” party that was planned July 1 in Heritage Park in support of oil beleaguered Gulf Shores and Orange Beach has been postponed until Sunday, July 11. The Foley bash was to coincide with the Jimmy Bufffett & Friends concert that was to be held that same day at the public beach in Gulf Shores.

On Monday, the City of Gulf Shores determined that surf conditions might undermine the stage on which Buffett would be performing. As a result, the Buffett & Friends concert was postponed until July 11.

Foley city officials decided on Monday to move the Heritage Park beach party, sponsored by the City of Foley, Riviera Utilities and the Foley Convention & Visitors Bureau, to July 11 as well. The Buffett concert, ticketed, but free, was aimed at giving the area’s lagging tourism industry a shot in the arm as a result of the ongoing oil crisis in the Gulf of Mexico.
