FOLEY, Alabama – Officers arrested Spanish Fort resident Joshua Owen Carter, 28, early Thursday morning for two burglaries in downtown Foley, police said.
Carter was apprehended for burglarizing two businesses Nov. 22, taking $30,000 worth of antique costume jewelry from Hollis Furniture and Antiques and pilfering $40 in cash from a register in Cahall’s Deli.
A “large majority” of the stolen jewelry was recovered from Carter’s vehicle during his arrest at 12:05 a.m. Dec. 1, according to a news release from the Foley Police Department. Investigators are still tracking down the rest of the stolen property and more arrests are possible, police said.
Carter was caught on a surveillance camera while stealing cash from a register. Prior to his capture, police distributed stills from the footage to area businesses in attempts to identify him.
Police also made arrests in another series of burglaries or attempted burglaries Nov. 22, the same night Carter broke into Hollis Furniture and Cahall’s Deli. Two men reportedly attempted to steal from three businesses in Foley, including two wireless stores and a tanning salon.
The men were arrested within hours of the crimes and most of the stolen property was recovered. Although the incidents occurred on the same night, the series of robberies are not related, according to the Foley Police Department.
