Foley moving forward with grant projects, applications

FOLEY - During July, the City of Foley approved to begin grant projects and submit grant applications to go towards future projects.

During the July 6 council, the City of Foley approved a HSIP Traffic Safety Improvement Grant for work to begin at the intersection of County Road 12 and the Foley Beach Express. The project includes the construction of offset turn lanes on Foley Beach Express, the addition of turn lanes on County Road 12, the addition of acceleration and deceleration lanes on Foley Beach Express, and a new mast arm signal with lighting.

The city hopes to begin the project within one to two months.

Along with road projects, the city is also looking to conduct Aaronville Park renovations through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The city has approved Grant Management to move forward on submitting the city’s grant.

The CDBG is worth $250,000 and requires a $25,000 match. With the grant funds, the city hopes to purchase and install new playground equipment at Aaronville Park and redesign existing facilities into a public restroom.

The CDBG, which is one of the oldest federal funding programs in America, is intended to help low-income areas and communities. The current playground equipment housed at Aaronville Park is in need of repairs and does not meet ADA Standards. The hope is to have the new equipment and restrooms completed within one to two years.
