Foley man jailed on rape charge

FOLEY, Ala. — A Foley man is currently in jail for allegedly raping an elderly woman.

According to Foley Police Chief David White, authorities were summoned to a West Myrtle Avenue residence at approximately 12:15 a.m.  Thursday by an elderly woman who reported that “a lone offender forcefully entered her residence through the back door and dragged her into a bedroom and beat, choked and raped her.”

He said that the victim easily identified 19-year-old Stephen Scott of Foley in the assault because she saw him in the neighborhood several times in the past few months. He said the victim added that a neighbor had previously called police when Scott had.

“We had received a previous call on him,” Wilson said in an interview, adding that Scott lives in the same block as the victim.

The police chief said that once authorities were notified of the assault early Thursday morning, Scott was quickly apprehended.

“We had him in custody within 30 minutes,” Wilson said.

Once apprehended, Scott was taken to the Foley Police Department for an interview and subsequently charged with first-degree rape and first-degree burglary, both felonies.

Police records indicate that Scott has previous violations, with current charges being compounded by a felony probation violation.

According to Wilson, Scott is currently in custody at the Baldwin County Corrections Center in Bay Minette.

“He’s still in jail,” the Foley Police chief said.

Police records indicate that Scott is being held on a $250,000 bond each for the burglary and rape charges and without bond for the probation violation.
