A Foley man has been arrested after a 30-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run near the intersection of CR 65 and Airport Road Thursday night.
Foley’s police and fire departments, along with Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office deputies, responded to a call of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle around 8:30 p.m. March 21 and were told the driver had left the scene in the vehicle. First responders found Nycole Tasheena Tate, 30 of Foley, on the side of the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a news release from Foley Police Chief Thurston Bullock, 911 received a call from Kaleb Rayn Owen, 42 of Foley, around 11 p.m. in which he said he was involved in the collision and that he thought he had struck a deer.
Investigators went to Owen’s house to speak with him and determined his 2008 white BMW had damage consistent with the collision and evidence found at the scene.
“During an interview, Owen was initially cooperative but subsequently requested an attorney,” Bullock wrote. “Our investigators determined through their investigation that there was enough evidence and probable cause for charges, and Owen was arrested.”
Owen has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident with death or personal injury, a felony.
