FOLEY, Alabama - The Foley Lions took control in the first half and put the game away in the third quarter on the way to a 49-21 win over the Theodore Bobcats on Friday at Ivan Jones Stadium.

The Lions (7-3) built a 24-7 lead by the half, then scored 19 points in the third to put the game out of reach. Foley will host the Baker Hornets in a Class 6A state playoff game next Friday at 7 p.m. The Bobcats (1-9) lost nine straight games after opening the season with a win.

Foley scored first on the first of two Jose Mendoza field goals, then added a 40-yard touchdown pass from Maison Taylor to Demarcus Bingham early in the second quarter to lead 10-0. Theodore answered with a 4-yard touchdown run from Cameron Davis to cut the lead to 10-7.

Foley would answer with a seven-play drive capped by a 1-yard touchdown run from Cedrix Reed. Taylor then connected with Bingham for a 46-yard touchdown toss just before the half.

Foley's Wendell Harris returned the second half kickoff for a touchdown, then the Lions tackled Theodore in the end zone for a safety. After the ensuing punt-after-safety from Theodore, Mendoza hit his second field goal and the Lions led 36-7 just four minutes into the third quarter.

Jalen Harris recovered a Theodore fumble on the next Bobcat drive, then backup quarterback Hampton Howard connected with Wendell Harris for a 27-yard touchdown pass on the ensuing drive.

Theodore would score two more touchdowns on Darius Griffith runs in the fourth quarter. On the final play of the game, Foley's Willie Dennis intercepted a Bobcat Hail Mary pass and returned it for a touchdown as time expired.
