FOLEY — In an effort to get Foley Public Library patrons accustomed to its automated check-out system, the library has a contest ongoing.
That contest is deemed “Maxine Photo Contest” and it challenges patrons to have their picture taken with Maxine, the library’s automated check-out system.
The contest runs through February, and participants’ pictures will be posted on a bulletin board at the library. In addition, a winner selected randomly from the group will receive a goody bag.
According to Library Circulation Head Melanie Schnieders, the event has drawn some attention.
“We’ve already had about 15 people do their photo,” she said.
That attention is the true focus of the contest, as it’s designed to make patrons more comfortable with the library version of a check-out register.
“She’s very helpful,” Schnieders said of Maxine, as the system allows patrons who are in a hurry to go ahead and check out their materials.
However, she warned, the system is only for checking out items for the first time.
“You can’t check them in and you can’t renew with her,” Schnieders said. “Just check out.”
