The Foley Garden Club recently celebrated the dedication and service of longtime member Dewannah Childress, recognizing her decades of contributions to the local gardening community.
Childress, a passionate gardener for many years, has always shared her knowledge and plants generously with others. She joined the club more than 50 years ago, following in the footsteps of her mother-in-law, who helped establish the club in 1947. Since then, she has held numerous leadership roles, including multiple terms as president, as treasurer, and most recently as historian.
A cancer survivor, Childress credits gardening with helping her through her recovery, saying it brings joy and fosters friendships. Her commitment to the club and her community was highlighted in a special surprise during the recognition: a congratulatory video from celebrity chef Paula Deen, a friend she met at a local restaurant.
The Foley Garden Club welcomes anyone interested in gardening to learn more by visiting the Foley Garden Club group on Facebook or attending monthly meetings featuring expert speakers and guided tours.
