Mrs. Armour’s, K-ESL classes have been learning about school procedures, bathroom rules, rules at school, hand-washing procedures, names of important people and places at our school.
They have also been learning about school tools and how to use scissors, crayons, pencils, books, glue, etc. The English Language students all learned to read the book, “A School,” all by themselves, turning pages correctly, pointing to the words, using the “I do, We do, You do” explicit learning strategies! Mrs. Armour is so proud of all her ESL – K students!
Mrs. Barker’s first grade class has been learning about motion. The students have learned that things can roll and rotate, but must have a force to make them do so.
This week, the class will be ending a unit on motion by making a roller coaster. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they can make the marble go all the way to the end?
Ms. Barton’s reading and social studies class is learning about how an astronaut lives and works in space, and the students have also explored the plant and animal life in the desert.
They have been working hard in math on adding three numbers, and using data from a chart to solve addition and subtraction problems.
In AMSTI science the kids have been learning all about clay, sand, and humus. Recently the kids enjoyed a lesson presented by Foley Elementary assistant principal Pam Jones, about how clay can be turned into art.
Mrs. Ard’s fourth grade is very busy already this year. In math, they are working hard to learn multiplication facts so that they will be ready for long division soon. Students have enjoyed the AMSTI unit on Electrical Circuits.
They can’t wait to wire miniature houses and flip the switch to make them light!
