The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has named the city of Foley a NOAA Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador, recognizing the community’s commitment to preparing for extreme weather, water, and climate events.
The designation is a national distinction awarded to organizations that strengthen community resilience through weather awareness and preparedness. NOAA noted that offices providing timely forecast information help emergency managers, first responders, government officials, businesses and the public make fast, smart decisions that save lives, protect property and enhance livelihoods.
Foley’s Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador status was officially approved earlier this year after the Foley Department of Public Safety submitted an application on behalf of the city. The application highlighted the department’s ongoing efforts to share reliable weather information and support preparedness among residents, businesses and visitors.
As a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador, Foley joins a nationwide network of partners dedicated to improving readiness, communication, and safety before, during and after severe weather events.
