FOLEY — A domestic disturbance this week ended with a Foley man heading to the hospital.
At approximately 7 p.m. Monday, Foley Police responded to a call claiming that shots were fired in the 7500 block of Helton Drive.
Upon arrival, officers found that Barry Garrett had allegedly shot his step-son, Thomas Kingsley, in the abdomen area. According to Officer Gary Dearing, Garrett said Kingsley became violent and struck him in the back of his head with his fist, grabbed a pair of scissors and threatened to kill him. At that point, Garrett told police that he armed himself with a pistol and warned Kingsley that he would shoot him. Kingsley then allegedly lunged at Garrett, who then shot the gun.
Dearing said Kingsley has a history of mental illness, and that alcohol was a contributing factor to the incident.
Dearing added that Kingsley was air-lifted to Baptist Healthcare in Pensacola, Fla.
The case is also still under investigation and no additional details are available at press time.
