Foley council to make decision on train museum mold

Posted

The Foley City Council is expected to make a decision tonight regarding repairs and mold removal necessary at the Foley Depot Museum.

The mold is confined to the front portion of the museum where artifacts are primarily kept. The mold has not impacted the model train exhibit because the building housing it was built recently.

Bonnie Donaldson, museum director, first noticed the mold back in December and approached the council to find a solution. According to Donaldson, this is the second time mold has infiltrated the museum and unless repairs are made to the museum it won’t be the last time either.

The building, which is over 100 years old, is plagued with structural issues, including huge gaps in the walls and between the doors. According to Donaldson, the gaps allow the moisture in which turns into mold.

Randy Kurtts, assistant engineer for the city, will present a report to the council regarding plans and costs to repair the museum so ServPro of Baldwin County will be able to come in to clean the building and get rid of the mold.
