FOLEY, Ala. — A public hearing was held Tuesday, prior to the Foley City Council meeting, to consider violations of the city’s Weed Abatement ordinance. During the public hearing a report was given by Mayor John Koniar on the cost to the city to abate three properties in violation of the ordinance.
Those properties were 602 W. Orchid Ave. ($357.45), Blue Heron Subdivision ($799.85), and 507 S. Cedar St. ($604.86).
During the council meeting the weed abatement expenses were approved by voice vote.
In other council business, members agreed to recommend two retail liquor applications based upon recommendations by the Police Department. The applications were by G and Z Ventures LLC, under the trade name of The Uptown Grille, and GIL DJR LLC under the trade name The Office Lounge.
The Uptowne Grille, which applied for a Restaurant Retail Liquor license, is located at 1518 N. McKenzie St. and was previously licensed under the trade name Wise Guyz Pizza. Councilman Wayne Trawick abstained from voting on approval of the Uptowne Grill’s application.
The Office Lounge applied for a Lounge Retail Liquor license for its location at 3828 S. McKenzie St, Suite B,C and D.
A resolution was passed to change the trustee for the $23.3 million bond issue from the Bank of New York to Regions Bank.
A resolution was approved memorializing the purchase of an irrigation system for the city greenhouse in the amount of $3,000.
A resolution was approved accepting Hatch Mott McDonald’s proposal of $19,950 for surveying and engineering design at the Wilson Pecan property where Wolf Bay Lodge is going. Another resolution approved was for a waiver of all but minimum Community Development Department and engineering fees for Wolf Bay Lodge.
Six SWAT rifles (Sig Sauer Automatics) were approved by resolution for the Police Department at a cost of $8,094.
A first reading of an ordinance on Broox Holmes’ annexation petition was approved.
A resolution was approved assuming street lighting in Pebble Creek Subdivision in the amount of $334.46 monthly.
A resolution approving a youth outreach program for $10,200 annually was approved at the Benny Ginwright Center in the Aaronville neighborhood.
Approval was also given to a resolution vacating a portion of the right of way for Azalea Commercial Park.
Council members recessed Tuesday’s meeting to go into executive session to discuss an economic development prospect.
