FOLEY, Ala. - The Foley Lions and Bayside Academy Admirals got big road wins against traditional powers in the first round of the AHSAA state football playoffs on Friday.
Foley traveled up I-65 to beat the Prattville Lions 30-15, snapping a seven-game win streak for Prattville.
Tyler Cameron completed 13-of-21 passes for 213 yards and touchdown passes to Demarcus Bingham and Valontai Adams. Isaiah Lewis rushed for 161 yards and a touchdown and Chris Shepherd scored Foley’s first touchdown after an 11-play, 73-yard drive in the first quarter. Jose Mendoza had a 29-yard field goal and Trevor Carvin and Jaret Powell had interceptions for Foley.
Foley (6-5) will host 6A No.2 Auburn in the second round on Friday at 7 p.m.
BAYSIDE ACADEMY 43 - GORDO 24: The Bayside Academy Admirals defeated Class 3A power Gordo 43-24 in the first round of the 3A state football playoffs on Friday.
Bayside (7-4) will travel to play Pike County in the second round this Friday night.
Bayside rushed for more than 400 yards in the win. Zach Dyas had 134 yards and three touchdowns, Tripp Puckett had 142 and a touchdown and Landon Lasseter rushed for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Hunter Slater completed 7-of-7 passes for 104 yards in the win.
SARALAND 28 -GULF SHORES 21: Nathan Harris had a touchdown pass to Corey Kelley, 95 yards rushing and caught a touchdown pass from Parker Mason but Gulf Shores fell 28-21 at Saraland in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs on Friday.
Saraland led 28-14 in the fourth quarter until Mason’s scoring pass to Harris.
The Dolphins tried an onside kick near the 2:00 minute mark but Saraland recovered and ran out the clock.
Gulf Shores finished the season with an 8-3 record and reached the playoffs for the first time since 2009.
