Foley Band to Perform in Texas

Posted

The Foley Band will be attending the 2011 Fiesta Flambeau Parade in San Antonio, Texas on April 16.   The “Mighty Band From Lion Land” will be representing the city of Foley, all of Baldwin County, and the state of Alabama as they will be the only band from the State of Alabama in the parade. The band will be traveling on five charter buses and will have 265 students, parents, administrators, and directors attending the trip.

Foley will be one of 47 high school marching bands in the three-and-a-half-mile night parade. In addition to the parade, the Foley Band students will also get to see some educational and exciting things such as the Alamo, the San Antonio Missions National Historic Park as well as visit Sea World and Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

This parade has been nicknamed the "People's Parade", and for a very good reason! It is enjoyed by more than 500,000 people along its route, as well as another 1.5 million watching its televised live commercial-free broadcast on PBS. The parade streams through the streets of beautiful downtown San Antonio as it makes its 3.5-mile trek. The magic, of this parade, happens when the sun goes down and the parade is illuminated by thousands of lights on the floats, dancers, horses, cars, and bands, becoming a parade of light and fun for all throughout the streets of San Antonio.

The Foley Band has been planning this trip for almost two years. The students and directors would like to thank any and all supporters of the band that have made this trip possible.
