Foley will improve more than 4 miles of roads during the coming year after City Council approved the city’s annual road improvement plan.
Under the plan, the city will seek bids to resurface 4.76 lane miles of roads. Officials will also request bids for an additional 1.54 miles of resurfacing work as an alternative elective project if funding is available.
Among the roadways included in the resurfacing program are Lakeview Drive from Carnoustie Drive to Baldwin County 12 and West Peachtree Avenue from North Cedar Street to Alabama 59.
The plan also includes one alley as an alternative project. The proposed resurfacing area runs between West Orange Avenue and West Myrtle Avenue from South Pine Street to South Alston Street.
Mayor Ralph Hellmich said the city also plans during the next year to expand its efforts to evaluate infrastructure conditions by studying alleys in addition to streets.
Foley currently appraises the condition of its streets, and Hellmich said officials want to develop a similar system for alleys.
"We want the alleys to be part of this," Hellmich said. "We're looking at multiple alleys all over the city. Some of them are in worse condition than others. We will be creating this alley grading system as a subset."
