A new four-way stop is now in place at the intersection of North Alston Street and West Peachtree Avenue as city officials move to manage increasing traffic near Baldwin Health.
Stop signs were installed last week on the morning of Jan. 14 requiring all traffic on both streets to come to a complete stop. The city added warning flags to the new signs to alert drivers to the change, particularly motorists traveling along Peachtree Avenue who previously did not stop.
Foley City Council approved the change in 2025 as part of a broader effort to improve traffic flow and safety around the Baldwin Health campus, which has seen a steady rise in vehicle activity tied to recent expansions.
Baldwin Health completed a new main entrance and lobby along with an ambulatory surgery center in 2025. The hospital also opened a five-story patient tower in 2024, significantly increasing the number of patients, staff and visitors traveling through the area.
The intersection sits within Foley’s Medical Overlay District, an area designated by the city in 2023 to promote the development of medical services in north Foley. City officials created the district to support long-term growth as the local population increases and demand for health care services continues to rise.
