Though the Copper Kettle is busy making travelers feel at home throughout the year, on Saturday, April 27, the staff welcomed special guests as Hobbits, elves, dwarves, dragons, and wizards made an unexpected journey to a magical dinner under the oaks during the 5th Annual Hobbit Tea. Sister Hobbits Robin and Sue treated guests to a variety of teas and delicious homemade food under the watch of reluctant host Bilbo himself, while familiar faces from Tolkien’s epics mingled with the crowd, from Sam, Smaug, Radagast and Gandolf. Magic tricks were provided by wizard Joseph Varner, dwarves Comedia Del Arte led songs, and music was provided by Leah Johnson, elf Katy Herndon, and Hobbit Melody Duncan. A costume contest was held, and the evening ended with wands of sparklers and good company around the bonfire.
It’ll be another year before the next Hobbit Tea, but the Copper Kettle hosts special events each month, as well as welcoming anyone during regular business hours. For more information on the Kettle’s daily menus and upcoming events, follow them on Facebook.
