Hershel T. Flowers, 96, of Foley died Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Mercy Medical.
He served in the Foley National Guard and was activated to full-time service with the U.S. Army at the beginning of World War II. He was a member of the F & AM Masonic Lodge in Foley and was an active Gideon for several years. He was also a postal carrier in Foley.
Survivors include his wife, Eloise H. Flowers of Foley; two daughters, Elzie Peacock of Louisville, Ky., and Elizabeth Ann Hoff of Foley; three grandchildren, Kendall and Nathan Peacock, and Joy Hoff; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 13 at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Dr. Curtis Grant and the Rev. Darrell Carnley officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe James, John D. Flowers, James “Bud” Flowers, Troy Flowers and Jason Stewart. Active pallbearers will be Terry Grant, James Flowers, Gary Flowers, Justin Flowers, J.R. Harbison and Cecil Spivey. Richard Hoff will play Taps at graveside. The Rowell Gospel Band will participate in the services.
