LOXLEY — A routine traffic stop along Interstate 10 near the 46-mile marker in Loxley by Loxley police officers is alleged to have netted two kilos of cocaine (that’s a little over four pounds) that police estimate last week. The police estimate the value of the drug to be about $750,000.
The drug was said to be in a secret compartment of a 1993 Toyota Tacoma driven by Silvio Sosa, 42, of Doral, Fla. Sosa was traveling eastbound, toward Florida when he was stopped for a traffic violation at about 1:45 a.m. July 17.
As of this writing, Sosa is in the Baldwin County Corrections Center in Bay Minette. He has been charged with one count of trafficking cocaine. Bail has been set at $1 million.
A police dog signaled to its handler that drugs were in the vehicle, and police went to work to find the hidden compartment.
According to at least one report, the drug was covered in axle grease in an attempt to hide its smell from the dog.
