Five Daphne Trojans sign on National Signing Day

DAPHNE, Ala. - Five Daphne High student-athletes were recognized for their accomplishment of making their collegiate plans to play sports at the next level on Dec. 16, National Signing Day at Daphne High.

“Congratulations to these five student-athletes and their families,” said Daphne athletic director and head football coach Kenny King.

Surrounded by family, friends, teammates, coaches, Daphne Mayor Robin LeJeune and the Daphne High administration and staff, the athletes signed their letters of intent to officially accept athletic scholarships offered to them by the following colleges/universities:

  • Gabrielle Clark (Gymnastics) – Utah State University

Gabrielle “Brie” Clark is an outstanding gymnast signing with Utah State University. She is on the A/B Honor Roll, a member of the National Honor Society, and has a 4.0 GPA. She was a 2020 Level 10 Alabama State Qualifier and 2019 Level 10 Regional Floor Champion. In the 2019 Level 10 Alabama State Competition she also received second place in AA, first place on the Beam, and second place in Vault and Floor. Clark  competed in the 2018 Level 9 Eastern Nationals where she was awarded Gold in AA and Floor and she received fifth place in vault and beam. During her freshman and sophomore year, she earned first place in Floor and second place in AA, Vault, and Beam.

Her Head Coach, Vladimir Novikov noted the following when speaking about Gabrielle,

“It was a privilege to coach her. She is so powerful, and her hard work and dedication always pushes her through. She has done many great things here and she is going to be wonderful at Utah State and a great addition to their program.”

  • Hannah Keel (Golf) – University of Mobile

Hannah Keel is a golfer signing with the University of Mobile. She has the honor of being the first female golfer in the history of Daphne High to receive a scholarship in golf. As a member of the softball team from 2016-2018, Hannah turned her sights on golf in 2019 and has not looked back. She was named to the 2020 AHSAA All Star (South) Team and received the 2020 All County honor. In 2020 she competed in three golf tournaments (Azalea City, Magnolia Grove, and Timber Creek) where she earned second place and two third-place finishes. In 2019, Keel placed second in Sub-State and third place in the Jimmy Green Golf Tournament. She finished her junior season with a tournament average of -94.3, GHIN Handicap of 19.6 and her longest drive was 250 yards. She has also excelled academically. She holds a 3.8 GPA, is on the A/B Honor Roll, and is registered in the dual enrollment program. Additionally, she is a member of the Project Outreach and Peer Helper programs.

“This is a moment that Hannah has earned,” said Daphne Head Golf Coach Robert Guthrie. “She is an exceptional golfer and young woman. I enjoyed coaching her and look forward to her success at the University of Mobile”.

  • Trent Battle (Football) – Texas Christian University

Trent Battle is a quarterback signing with Texas Christian University. He is a four-year varsity starter, 2020 Team Captain, 2020 All State Nominee, 2020 Coastal Nominee, and 2020 All County Awardee. In 2019, he received All State Honorable Mention, First-Team All-County honors and the AHSAA Class 6A Player of the Year. He has also been named Player of the Week six times in his tenure at Daphne. In the classroom, Trent has merited a 3.96 GPA, A/B Honor Roll Status and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Daphne Football Coach Kenny King described Trent as an: “Electric player and a great young man that I have been honored to coach for four years. He has been playing football since he was little and has grown into an outstanding football player. His hard work will produce results and I have no doubt whatsoever that he will do great things and look forward to watching him compete and achieve at the next level.”

Battle’s 2020 Stats: 109 pass completions, 150 pass attempts, 1612 passing yards, 14.8 yds. per pass, 19 passing touchdowns, 91 rush attempts, 716 rushing yards, 7.9 yards per rush and nine rushing touchdowns.

  • Midnight Steward (Football) – Samford University

Midnight Steward is a defensive back signing with Samford University. He is an exceptional athlete that lettered in Football, Basketball, and Track during his Daphne High career. Midnight had an impressive senior season. He was a 2020 All-State Nominee, 2020 Coastal Nominee, 2020 All County Awardee and was awarded Player of the Week twice. In 2019, he received All County Honorable Mention.

Daphne High Head Football Coach Kenny King said Steward is a remarkable student as well with an A/B Honor Roll status and a 3.5 GPA.

 “I have watched Midnight grow into a man and I couldn’t be any prouder. He has matured mentally and physically into a major player and student that is going to do really great things. Samford has received an extraordinary talent on and off the field”, King added.

Steward’s 2020 Stats: 18 solo tackles, 40 assisted tackles, three interceptions, two touchdowns, eight pass deflections, eight big hits and two caused fumbles.

  • Cade Reynolds (Football) – South Dakota State University

Cade Reynolds is a linebacker and strong safety signing with South Dakota State University. He was a dual sport athlete earning letters in football and basketball. He was also a 2020 All-Coastal Nominee and 2020 All-County awardee. In the classroom, Cade was an extraordinary student earning a 4.0 GPA, A/B Honor Roll status and a 31 on his ACT. In addition, he was a member of Project Outreach, the DHS Community Service Initiative, Spanish National Honor Society and the National Honor Society.

 “He is a hard worker whose football acumen is incomparable,” Daphne Head Coach Kenny King said of Cade. “He is an excellent student and has matured and grown during his high school career. He will continue to do great things at South Dakota State and in his future.”

Reynolds’ 2020 Stats: 59 solo tackles, 37 assisted tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 6 pressures, 5 sacks, 2 hustle plays, 4 big hits, 1 exceptional play, 1 caused fumble and one caused interception.
