First Sgt. Willie “Bill” Marshall Dorman, 80, born April 11, 1930 in Aynor, S.C., a resident of Fairhope for 38 years, died March 22, 2011 after battling liver cancer since 1991.
He proudly served 25 years in the U.S. Army. He served in Panama, Germany, two tours in Korea and his last tour in Vietnam in 1971. He taught JROTC for 17 years in Mobile County High Schools at both Mary G. Montgomery and B.C. Rain, retiring in 1990.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Mary Dorman; and brother, Brook Dorman.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Hazel Dorman of Fairhope; two daughters, Lorie (Jamie Gray) Nelson and Christie (Richard) Bettner, both of Fairhope; two grandsons, Aaron Nelson and Hunter Bettner, both of Fairhope; three granddaughters, Jessica Nelson, Alexis Bettner and Mary “Lizzie” Bettner, all of Fairhope; two sisters, Ruth Lombard and Fran Dexter, both of Melbourne, Fla.; brother, Mack (Jeannie) Dorman of Palatka, Fla.; many nieces and nephews across the country, including Theresa (Kenny) Wooten, Joey (Loretta) Childress, Vernon (Jo Anna) Childress, Preston (Nikki) Childress, and Chad (Melanie) Childress.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 25 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26 from the funeral home chapel. Interment with full military honors will follow at Brook-Cedron in Barnwell.
