George Edward Finch, 79, a resident of Foley, died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Oct. 31, 1930 in Emington, Ill., the son of Edward Francis Finch and Bertha Edith Blackburn. He was a skilled machinist, superintendent in the tool and die trade for many years and owner of his own company, George E. Finch Manufacturing Company in Moline, Ill.
He and his family relocated to Foley upon retiring in 1985. He was a pilot and enjoyed flying his own Cessna 172 airplane. He was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. He loved spending time with his family and immensely enjoyed yearly vacations and other family gatherings.
He was a devoted husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Bertha Finch; a son, Thomas Finch; and a sister, Nancy Mee.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Catherine Darlene York of Foley; five children, Linda (Russell) Lingafelter of Moline, Ill., Ricky Finch of Foley, Bonnie (Robert) Haller of Foley, Peggy Finch of Foley and Sandra (Leonard) Pate of Loxley; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Simonse of Portland, Maine.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 2 at Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley with a funeral Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Foley. Burial will follow at Pine Rest Memorial Park in Foley.
