• Sun Chiefs sweep JDCC/ Reach 10-0 mark in South Division
BAY MINETTE, Ala.— Faulkner State swept visiting South Division rival Jeff Davis 6-5 and 4-3 Tuesday to improve to 29-10 overall and 10-0 in South Division play. Leading the South Division the Sun Chiefs also extended their win streak to 19 straight overall and 14-0 at home.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Katie Lee singled in the winning run (Gabrielle Kespelher) from third in the opener to give Kespelher (21-6) her latest win. Kespelher leads the state in wins and strikeouts with 187Ks. Faulkner led 5-1 until the Warhawks tied the score 5-5 in the top of the seventh. Kaitlyn Blubaugh, Hannah Brown, Ashton Gautreaux, Kespelher and Lee each had an RBI for the Sun Chiefs. Allison Pickett and Kaylea Cazalas each had a double.
Taylor Alvers (8-4) started for FSCC in game two and went the distance for the victory. Ashton Gautreaux was 3-for-4 with two doubles and 2 RBIs. She also had a stolen base as did Brown who was 1-for-3 at the plate and scored twice. Brown is second in the state in steals with 22. Makayla Reed and Emaleigh Dunn each had an RBI in the win. Dunn is also the ACCC Player of the Week. Pickett and Gautreaux have 41 and 40 RBIs—fourth and fifth in the conference.
