BAY MINETTE- The Faulkner State Lady Sun Chiefs took their first victory of 2009 last Tuesday when they defeated local rivals Bishop State Lady Wildcats 70-59.
Faulkner held Bishop scoreless for eight minutes in the first quarter while they went on a 13-0 run. The run was stopped when Bishop’s Bridget Brown went 2-2 from the foul line with 10:21 left in the half.
With the score 26-18 and less than 2 minutes the Lady Sun Chiefs had another 7-0 run to close out the first half 33-18.
With the score 36-25 and 16:17 left in the game Bishop made a 10-2 to come back within six on Faulkner. Faulkner then starts their own 17-0 run with 9:18 left in the game to pull away 64-35. With less than two minutes on the clock Bishops tries to make a come back with a 11-0 run only to come up short as the Lady Sun Chiefs take their first division win of the season 70-59. Brittany Syria had a strong performance for the Lady Sun Chiefs with 21 points and 10 rebounds, Detetria McWaine had 17 points and Keara Walker aided with 16. Jessica Lindsey had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Sun Chiefs.
China Thomas had 16 points while teammate Bridget Brown had 15 points for the Lady Wildcats.
The Lady Sun Chiefs will host Southern Union tonight, Thursday at 5:15 p.m.

BAY MINETTE- Gulf Shores' hometown son Brandon Hubbard had the biggest night of his short carrer at Faulkner when he went five for six from three point range and 8-8 from the foul line giving him 27 points for the night as Faulkner State defeats Bishop 84-60.
Tied at 12 with 14:13 left in the first half Faulkner took a nine point lead, the Sun Chiefs then maintained the lead the remainder of the game.
Down by 24 with six minutes left in the game Bishop rallied to a 9-0, but it was not enough as Faulkner took their second victory of 2009 84-66.
Hubbard had 27 points of the night while Jeff Lewis had 14.
The next home game for Faulkner will be against Southern Union on Thursday at 7 p.m.
