Faulkner State basketball roster lined with Baldwin names

BAY MINETTE, Alabama - When the Faulkner State Community College Sun Chief men's basketball team hits the floor this fall, it will definitely have a Baldwin County flavor.

Six former county standouts are slated to be on Coach Jack Robertson's roster. Four former Baldwin County High Tigers, a former Foley Lion, and a former Spanish Fort Toro will be among 17 Sun Chiefs fighting for playing time.

Ronnie Stanley, Marcus Johnson, Xavier Dortch, and Larry Rogers - all from Bay Minette as well as Rafael Adams from Foley and Reagan Eubanks from Spanish Fort are part of the Faulkner State program this season.

"We are looking for all six to play big roles for us," longtime Faulkner State coach Jack Robertson said Thursday.

"Ronnie Stanley (a 2008 BCHS graduate) leads the way as far as experience goes. He was out of basketball for a bit but then got things together while playing AAU ball. His coach on that team really got him moving forward and he joined us at midseason last year and played in the second half of the season," Robertson said. "Ronnie is someone I am really proud of and he's someone who has made great strides. He will be an integral part of our team. He's a great shooter and will help us."

Johnson, a 6'2" all around player, was redshirted last year but is now ready to hit the court.

"Marcus is a real leader with a great personality and he can also really shoot the basketball," Robertson said. "He will definitely be an impact player for us."

Last year's top BCHS player, Dortch, signed this spring with Faulkner and Robertson thinks the 5'8" guard has what it takes to contribute.

"He is not as tall as some guards but I have no doubt he can get the job done. He has been working extremely hard and will battle for the point guard spot. He comes from a great family."

Rogers, 6-5 and 210 pounds, signed with Southern Union after high school but has transferred to Faulkner.

"He got hurt up there and decided he wanted to come back home and play. He has great potential and I hope he can turn into a good inside player for us," the FSCC coach added.

Foley's Rafael Adams also is transferring into the Bay Minette school.

"Rafael is a redshirt transfer coming in from Southwest Tennessee. He's a real good rebounder and will be counted on inside for us."

Adams, 6'7" and 230 pounds, will have two years left at Faulkner and will be the tallest Sun Chief this season.

Eubanks is another former county standout who will be fighting for playing time.

"Regan is 6'4" and is very athletic and a real student of the game. He is also a good shooter. He knows how to win as he also played baseball on the state champion Spanish Fort baseball team, " Robertson said.

Robertson also noted that a seventh member of the team from the county is his manager Jalen Mims, from Baldwin County High.

"It is good to have so many local folks a part of our team," the veteran coach added.
