Bay Minette police are continuing to investigate a domestic quarrel which escalated into a fatal stabbing Sunday at the East Hickory Street residence the couple shared.

Lanita Crooks, 32, said she began arguing “about different matters” Saturday with Germaine Broughton, 24, her live-in companion, according to Capt. Clarence Crook.

The argument climaxed inside the residence Sunday afternoon when Crooks allegedly stabbed Broughton below the left eye. The victim then stumbled into the backyard and collapsed, Crook said.

“Neighbors were lounging around in their yards and saw him run to the backyard and saw he had blood on him,” Crook said.

Broughton was life-flighted to the USA Medical Center where he died Monday.

Crook said the suspect’s 15-year-old son was in his bedroom and did not witness the stabbing.

Crooks has been charged with murder and is being held at Baldwin County Corrections Center.

Circuit Judge Robert Wilters set bond Wednesday morning at $250,000 on the murder charge and $50,000 on a 2005 felony drug conviction for which she is on probation.

Wilters also ordered Crooks to have no contact with the victim’s family and submit to house arrest and electronic monitoring if she posts bond.

Wilters also set a bond revocation hearing on the drug charge for later this month.

Crooks told Wilters she was arrested in May on a harassment charge and that a hearing is slated May 1 in municipal court.
