Fast start propels Fairhope to big win over BCHS

BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Fairhope raced to a 38-0 halftime lead and then coasted in from there to claim a 38-16 region win over host Baldwin County Friday evening at Lyle Underwood Stadium in Bay Minette.

The Pirates, now 4-0 overall and 3-0 in league play, scored four times in the first quarter and then added a field goal and one more touchdown in the second period to build the big halftime lead.

Coach Bobby Moore's Tigers tallied a safety and two touchdown runs from Dwayne Koen in the second half to account for the final 38-16 score.

Coach Adam Winegarden’s Pirates forced the Tigers to turn the ball over on downs at the Fairhope 20 on the game's opening drive and then on the next play, David Kirksey raced 80 yards for the touchdown. John Baxter's PAT made it 7-0 Pirates.

Junior Maye then recovered a blocked BCHS punt at the Tiger eight and three plays later, quarterback Grey Jackson got the score on a six-yard run around his right end. Baxter again converted and it 14-0.

Following another blocked punt, this time it was downed at the Bay Minette 25, Jackson hit Kirksey for a 25 yard touchdown and Baxter's point after had the score at 21-0 with 3:36 left in the first stanza.

A Jackson to Maye 56 yard scoring play made it 28-0 with :22 remaining in the first and a 33 yard field goal from Baxter midway through the second period upped the lead to 31-0.

Jackson’s 65 yard ramble to paydirt closed out the first half scoring.

A 12-play, 61-yard drive in the fourth quarter netted BCHS their first touchdown and Koen capped the drive with a seven yard touchdown blast and David Bain's extra point made the score 38-9.

Koen, following a Klarim Henry interception at the Tiger twelve, then capped the scored as he set sail on an 88-yard touchdown run with 3:18 left in the contest. Koen ended up with 106 yards on just three carries while Fairhope’s Kirksey had 102 on four runs. Jackson added 71 yards rushing on two runs and two touchdown passes.

BCHS quarterback Andre Davis finished the night with 13-of-21 passing for 133 yards while adding 76 yards rushing on 19 carries.

BCHS (0-4, 0-3) entertains Gulf Shores next Friday in Bay Minette while Fairhope plays at home against Spanish Fort on Friday.
