Farmers and Fishermen's Market tweaks hours

FOLEY, Ala. — With the Coastal Alabama Farmers and Fishermen’s Market launching earlier this month in Foley, some adjustments are still under way.

Market Manager Heather Pritchard announced that shopping hours will now be 2-6 p.m. each Tuesday, Friday and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, with the fall season continuing into November.

She explained that the change was driven by both customers, who often would arrive before the market would open at its later time.

“People were showing up at 2 p.m.,” Pritchard said.

On opening day, vendors told The Onlooker that customers descended on the market as early as 1:30 p.m..

But Pritchard also pointed out that soon it will be darker outside much earlier.

“Daylight Saving Time is coming,” she said about the nationwide falling back an hour that starts Nov. 3.

Pritchard said that the market’s intent to pair residents and visitors with local farmers and fisheries in an effort to provide fresh, local food options is the driving force behind the market. She anticipates that adjusting the facility’s hours will help make that possible.

“This is the community’s market,” she said.

Pritchard added that soon, a sign advertising those hours will be posted in front of the facility, which is located next to Wolf Bay Lodge on County Road 20.
