Family Fun Day to benefit Under His Wings

Pack up your kids and head out to Brantley Farms on Sunday, April 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a Family Fun Day. The event will benefit Under His Wings, a 6-month Christian residential treatment center in Robertsdale for girls under the age of 19 who are in crisis.

Brantley Farms is located just off of County Road 64 on Pollard Road in Daphne. The activities for that day will include pony rides, interacting with farm animals, face painting, games, an inflatable slide, pictures on the antique tractors, arts and crafts, and yard sale booths. You won’t want to miss this fun day on the farm.

The proceeds from the event will greatly benefit Under His Wings as they reach out to teenage girls in our community who need help.

Under His Wings was formed through the vision of Dr. Lorena “Nena” E. Hunt, an OB/GYN in Fairhope, and was nurtured independently by two other women, Cindy Marshall, a longtime patient of Hunt, and Tracey Cioncoli, a Daphne business owner who has served as a youth and children’s ministry director.

The five-bedroom, 5 ½  bath home located off of U.S. Highway 90 in Robertsdale, was built in the 1970s by the Mildorf family and was purchased more than a year ago by the organization for use as a temporary shelter for teenage girls.

The home also includes a small apartment occupied by Marshall and her husband, John, who will serve as group parents for the home. For more than a year, the group has worked to renovate the home under the direction of executive director Angie Michal.

Hundreds of donations have come in for the home, including much-needed money, furnishings and labor. In November, the group Impact100 awarded a $106,000 grant for the home. The home has also received a donation from the Snook Foundation, among others.

The facility will house up to 10 girls, two per room. The group is privately funded and, while it does receive donations from churches, is not affiliated with any church, Michal said. It also does not receive any government funding.

Anyone wanting to donate can visit the group’s website http://underhiswings.info or mail to Under His Wings, 7099 Wood Acres Drive, Fairhope, AL 36532.
