FAIRHOPE, Ala. - Mark your calendars for the 24th annual Alabama Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, Sept. 17. Fairhope’s annual local Cleanup Day is also planned for that day.
Fairhope volunteers will gather at 8 a.m. that day at the municipal pier.
"If we keep our city streets clean, we'll have an easier time keeping the bay clean," Fairhope Mayor Tim Kant said.
The Coastal Cleanup is part of an international effort to remove marine debris from coastal waters, which Alabama joined in 1987. Since then, more than one million pounds of debris have been cleaned from our shores-along rivers and creeks, bays and bayous, the Gulf and Mobile Bay, according to a city news release
