FAIRHOPE, Alabama—The city has partnered with the Mobile Bay National Estuary Program to conduct a study of the watershed of one of the deep gullies that runs through town.
A meeting to gather information for the study has been scheduled for 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13 p.m., at the James P. Nix Center and will be led by Trey Jinwright of Jade Consulting, which received a city contract to conduct the study.
“In April of 2005, the Volanta Gulley watershed produced enough water flow to completely wash away North Section Street near Frederick Avenue,” a city news release stated. “The rainfall within this area flows through storm drains, culverts and gullies until reaching the Mobile Bay via a gulley south of West Volanta Avenue.”
The Volanta Gulley watershed project is a two-fold project, according to the release.
“It will first involve a study of the watershed and the design of two to five construction projects with two of these projects being constructed in 2012.”
Jinwright will give an overview of the watershed project at the meeting, review his project goals and disclose preliminary findings.
Residents are encouraged to attend and share any concerns or information on how their property is or has been affected in the past, according to the news release, including those who live on the following streets: Rosa, Barclay, Miller, Frederick, Quail Loop, Leslie Court, Greenwood, Audubon Place, Evergreen, Lillian, Lincoln, Jasmine, Yupon, Myrtle, Patlynn, Patlynn Court, Woodlane Court, Claire Court, Holly Drive, Glenn Hardie Drive, Perdido, Tensaw, Seminole, Pensacola, Grand Avenue, Tulip Terrace, Camellia Court, Allison Court, Maple, Live Oak, Olive, Cedar, Desha Court, Leslie Court, Simon, Marca Court and areas of North Ingleside, North Section, Volanta Avenue, North Mobile, Gayfer Avenue and Bon Secour .
