FAIRHOPE, Ala.—Last Monday, the City Council approved hiring a new personnel officer at a salary of $50,000 per year.

Since March, the work has been performed by the city clerk, following the termination of the previous officer.

It is unclear whether the position will head its own department, or be included within another one.

The previous salary for the job was $79,000, according to records.

In other business, the council:

Heard a report about noise issues from Councilman Mike Ford, who said that he, Mayor Tim Kant and others had met with the owner of Fly Creek Café, regarding loud music reported there.

“We’re hoping for a resolution and a lot of improvement within a month’s time,” he said. “If not, we will have to consider something else, including lower decibel limits in the ordinance.”

Appointed Robert Riggs to the Financial Advisory Committee, 4-0, with Councilwoman Debbie Quinn abstaining. He replaces Dick Kwapil, who attended few meetings. Riggs was nominated for the position by Council President Lonnie Mixon, according to records.

Heard a report about water quality testing from Kant, who said that a lab at Auburn University may do the work to seek the cause of recurring swimming advisories at the Fairhope public beach. Another advisory was issued there last week, the sixth this year.
