FAIRHOPE, Ala.—A list of long-awaited road repaving projects presented to the City Council last week was the wrong one, Mayor Tim Kant said Wednesday.
“The list I handed out wasn’t the top priority list,” Kant said. “We’ve had three different lists, and I handed out the wrong list at the meeting.”
Plans to correct the mistake came after The Fairhope Courier on Tuesday reported that the list posted to the city’s website last week was different than one provided to the newspaper.
Following inquiries by The Courier last week, the first list was removed from the website and a new one posted Friday. After The Courier raised additional questions on Friday that the new list still did not match the hard copy, that second list was removed early this week.
Kant said he met with senior staff Wednesday morning to confirm which list should be posted.
“I’m glad you were right on top of it, or we would have had a list out there that wasn’t correct,” Kant said Wednesday in an interview with The Courier. “I’ve asked for the list to be (prepared for posting to the website), and we should have that done by 8 a.m. tomorrow.”
Although funds were budgeted this year for street repaving, the project was never performed.
Throughout the year, council members raised questions about the status of the project and whether a priority road repaving list had been determined.
A final corrected paving list will be presented at the Sept. 12 council meeting, according to staff.
