Author and former attorney Mark J. Tenhundfeld will discuss his book “State of Segregation: America’s Freedom Rights Struggles as Told by Alabama” during a free event June 18 at the Fairhope Public Library.

The program is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the library, located at 501 Fairhope Ave. in Fairhope.

“State of Segregation” examines Americans’ civil rights and civil liberties through 32 U.S. Supreme Court cases tied to Alabama’s social and legal conflicts. The book traces issues ranging from early Jim Crow challenges to modern disputes over gerrymandering, combining legal analysis, historical narrative and social commentary to explore how discrimination became embedded in American institutions and how the nation continues to struggle with constitutional promises of equal protection and due process.

Tenhundfeld, a Mobile native, earned a political science degree from Yale University and a law degree from Vanderbilt University. He practiced law for 26 years in Mobile and Washington, D.C., before transitioning to education, teaching government and economics at his former high school in Mobile. He now lives in Huntsville.

The event is presented by the Fairhope Public Library. For more information, call (251) 929-1464.
