Fairhope Public Library announces September events for young adults, crafters and plant lovers

Posted

The Fairhope Public Library will host several community events in September, offering opportunities for young adults, crafters and plant enthusiasts to gather, learn and connect.

The library’s September events include a young adult game night, a needlework club and a community plant swap.

The first event, Board on a Monday, will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at the Fairhope Public Library, 501 Fairhope Ave.

The event is the first in a monthly young adult series featuring board games ranging from classics such as Scrabble to modern games such as Azul. Attendees can choose from the library’s selection or bring a favorite game from home.

The come-and-go event is open to people ages 18 to 35 and does not require registration. Tables will be available for multiple games to take place simultaneously, allowing attendees to play with friends or meet others.

The library will then launch its Needlework Club at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, in the library’s Boardroom. The club will meet from 10 a.m. to noon on the first and third Monday of each month.

Led by Susan Davis, the bi-monthly club is designed for people interested in needlepoint, cross-stitch and embroidery as well as those who simply want to spend time talking and creating with other handcrafters.

The club welcomes participants of all skill levels and backgrounds. No registration is required, but participants should bring all necessary materials for their current project.

The month’s events will conclude with a Community Plant Swap from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the library, 501 Fairhope Ave., under the covered patio entrance.

The plant swap is organized by professional horticulturist Grace Skidmore and Mobile Plant Swap. Participants can bring houseplants or outdoor perennials to trade and have an opportunity to try growing a new plant while exchanging advice with other plant enthusiasts.

Attendees are encouraged to get cuttings potted and rooted ahead of the event. Baldwin County Master Gardeners will also be available to answer questions about plant care.

The September events are part of a broader calendar of programming at the Fairhope Public Library. The library offers weekly and special events throughout the year for people of all ages, with programs and activities designed to bring members of the community together. The Friends of the Fairhope Public Library also host book sales throughout the year.

More information about the library and its upcoming events is available at https://fairhopelibrary.org.

The Fairhope Public Library serves approximately 160,000 people each year and provides an estimated $5.9 million in value to the community. Its mission is to provide equal access to information for the Fairhope community while sustaining and energizing the intellectual, cultural, educational and recreational life of the community.

The library has operated since 1900, when it was established in the home of Marie Howland through voluntary membership fees and community tax funds collected by the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation.
