FAIRHOPE, Ala. - A Baldwin County Schools spokesman said today the administrative review of Fairhope Middle School Principal Deadra Powe, who was placed on paid leave Thursday, is limited to office matters and does not involve allegations of inappropriate contact with students or similar issues.
“The review involves administrative business matters,” said Terry Wilhite, BCS director of communications. “The concerns do not involve contact with students.”
Powe’s administrative leave was announced Dec. 17 by the school system.
On Monday, a Fairhope Police Department spokesman confirmed they were assisting in the case but squelched rumors of an arrest or safety concerns at the school.
“There have been no arrests,” said Sgt. Craig Sawyer. “There were no safety concerns. We have a police officer regularly assigned to the schools as a school resource officer. The school board asked if we could assist.”
Brandon Bailey, executive principal for middle schools, was on campus Friday and placed in charge of the school, pending the review or appointment of an interim principal, Wilhite said.
