The Fairhope Museum of History will be celebrating Round Up Day Tuesday, Nov. 5, from 6-9 p.m. Round Up Day is Fairhope’s founders day celebration. On Nov. 15, 1894, Fairhope’s founder Earnest Gaston declared that all those ready to establish this Utopian colony meet on the Eastern shores of Mobile Bay. On that day, 28 people from Chicago to Los Angles met and established Fairhope, Alabama, a “model community.”
This year’s celebration will be at the Fairhope Museum of History and old time band, “Cracker Dan” will perform in the fire truck bay. Refreshments will be served in the Council Chamber meeting room upstairs and a fun Fairhope History Scavenger Hunt will go on the entire evening with prizes awarded. Fairhope Museum of History docents will be dressed in period costumes to greet and assist guest.
In 2008, Mayor Kant declared this to be an annual celebration. For the past two years this event was held on the actual date of Nov. 15 as a costume party with attendees wearing costumes resembling Fairhope Founders. This year, Round Up Day will be held in conjunction with the November Art Walk so more guest will have the opportunity to enjoy the celebration. The event is free and open to the public.
