Fairhope man charged in stabbing incident

FAIRHOPE, Alabama — On Oct. 17, at approximately 3 p.m., a stabbing occurred in a parking lot on South Section Street at Morphy Avenue.

Six individuals were playing basketball in the gymnasium of the Christian Life Center. After the game, the victim, a 19-year-old male, went to his car, where he was allegedly confronted by Sargon Asa James Jr., a 19-year-old black male resident of Fairhope.

According to the investigation, an argument started about the game. James allegedly used an unknown style knife or edged instrument to stab the victim multiple times in the face and neck. He then fled the scene on foot.

The victim was treated at Thomas Hospital for his injuries, which were non-life threatening.

Investigators of the Fairhope Police Department were able to locate James at an apartment on Spring Run Drive where he was arrested for assault in the first degree, a felony.

James was transferred to the Baldwin County Corrections Center in Bay Minette, where bond was set at $10,000.

At this point, it is not believed that any of the involved individuals had any connection to the Christian Life Center aside from the fact that they were using the gym to play basketball.
