Robert R. “Dick” Turner was born Jan. 3, 1931 and passed away on June 4, 2009.
He owned and operated Dick’s Wrecker service in Fairhope for 48 years. He was the first independent wrecker service in Baldwin County. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, M. Joyce Turner.
He was a legend in Fairhope and the town character. If you talk to any of the locals, they could tell you a story about him. He loved to help others, and towing was in his blood. He lived and breathed wreckers. When the phone rang, he was always ready for his next call. My father-in-law, Tony Wade (Tony’s Towing Inc.), started his career with him, and look where it has put him today.
So, in celebration of his life and a thank-you for all he has done for my family and for this community: “Uncle Dick, you will be missed.”
We laid him to rest June 8 at the Fairhope Colony Cemetery, and we gave him his last ride through town just the way he would have wanted it. Thanks to all the local wrecker companies for paying your last respect to a fallen tower.
Holley K. Wade
